Frequently Asked Questions

What level of player is the program designed for?

League of Girls Hockey is designed to meet girls where they are.

Girls should be comfortable moving independently on skates. We welcome girls who are new or newer to hockey, as well as those looking to continue developing their skills in a supportive environment.

How are girls grouped?

We group girls primarily based on age and social fit, while also considering skill level.

We know a 16-year-old who is newer to hockey does not necessarily want to be grouped with younger girls, just as younger girls benefit from being with peers their own age. Our coaching team works hard to create groups that feel comfortable socially while still supporting skill development.

How is the program structured?

Our format evolves throughout the season.

At the start of the year, most of our ice time is focused on skill development, helping girls build confidence, improve fundamentals and feel comfortable in the environment.

As the season progresses, we spend more time balancing skills instruction and gameplay, allowing girls to apply what they have learned in a fun and supportive setting.

Do girls play on formal teams?

Not really.

League of Girls Hockey uses a more flexible format than a traditional house league. Coaches regularly mix groups to maximize development, confidence and social connection.

The goal is to help girls improve while having fun, rather than focusing on standings, playoffs or team rankings.

Is equipment provided?

Yes.

Whether your daughter requires head-to-toe equipment (yes, even skates!) or simply needs a few pieces to replace equipment she has outgrown, we provide it.

Our goal is to remove equipment as a barrier to participation and ensure girls have what they need to take the ice with confidence.

Why only once per week?

Because real life is busy.

Our model is intentionally designed to fit around school, family commitments and other activities. Girls receive both skills instruction and gameplay in a single weekly session, on the same day and at the same time each week.

Families often tell us that the predictable schedule is one of the reasons they choose the program.

What's included in registration, and why is League of Girls Hockey priced differently than some traditional hockey programs?

League of Girls Hockey is built differently from many traditional hockey programs.

Registration includes:

• A strong coach-to-player ratio that allows coaches to meet girls where they are and provide more individualized instruction
• Paid all-female coaches and mentors with strong hockey backgrounds
• Equipment support for players who need it, including skates
• Weekly skills instruction and gameplay in the same session
• A girls-only environment designed for those who want a more welcoming and less intimidating hockey experience

This model is more expensive to deliver than a traditional volunteer-run program, but families consistently tell us they value the coaching, consistency and experience.

Are payment plans available?

Yes.

We offer payment plans to help families spread registration costs over time. We can also point families toward funding and athlete assistance programs that may help offset participation costs.
